Testing For Women

With Sharie Hiller

Feeling wiped out and drained of energy no matter how much sleep you get?

Maybe you feel a sudden surge of heat flooding your chest, neck, and face no matter how low you set the air conditioner?

Perhaps you’re feeling “off” and you can’t put your finger on why?

If any of these sound familiar, then you may have a hormonal imbalance.

To maintain a healthy lifestyle, our bodies depend on our hormones. Think of hormones as chemical messengers that coordinate and control different bodily processes. These processes range from your metabolism to energy levels to reproductive health and mood.

Balanced hormones help you to feel and be at your best. Unfortunately, factors like aging, stress, and environmental influences can disrupt this delicate balance. When this happens, women often face unexpected health challenges and uncomfortable side effects.

That’s where I can help. I’m a healthcare practitioner and hormone consultant for women who has spent almost three decades helping women get to the root cause of their symptoms—including symptoms of a hormonal imbalance.

How Do I Know if I Have a Hormone Imbalance?

As a woman moves through life, she may find that she’s experiencing side effects related to hormonal changes, or imbalances. Many of these changes come with natural transitions like perimenopause or menopause. However, the reality is that a woman’s hormones can become imbalanced at any point in her life.

At its simplest, a hormone imbalance means you have either too much or too little of a hormone in your body.

Because hormones influence how we feel within and about our bodies, when the levels change, you may experience one or more symptoms. These can include:

  • Experiencing hot flashes during the day or waking up drenched in sweat

  • Not feeling like yourself and you can’t figure out why

  • Feeling sapped of energy or exhaustion

  • Seeming more on edge or sadder than usual

  • Spending more effort than normal to stay alert or on top of your game

  • Unexplained, extra pounds that won’t come off no matter how much you exercise

  • Low or lost libido or sex feels painful

A common cause behind these symptoms is that one or more of your hormone levels have changed and are no longer in balance.

The key to feeling better is to first understand exactly what’s going on and then design a tailored treatment plan to help restore you to optimal levels.

The DUTCH Complete Test helps you to do just that.

What is the DUTCHTest®
and How Does it Work?

Sharie Hiller Dutchtest

The DUTCH Complete is an at-home test that gives a comprehensive look at your hormone levels. DUTCH is an acronym that refers to Dried Urine Test for Comprehensive Hormones. This means the test uses multiple dried urine samples to get the fullest understanding of what’s going on in your body.

What makes the DUTCHtest® so powerful is that it doesn’t just measure sex and adrenal hormone levels. It also looks at what’s called metabolites. This is a measure of how your hormones are being produced and broken down in your body. By examining both, you can get a more extensive picture of where your body may or may not be performing optimally.

Hormone levels typically do not remain static throughout the day. The DUTCHtest® takes that into account. It does so by having you collect samples from different points of the day across a 24-hour period.

Since the DUTCHtest® examines your hormones and metabolites at such an in-depth level, it can also provide insight into certain breast cancer risk factors. It's important to know that the test itself doesn’t diagnose breast cancer. However, it can shed some light on factors that could contribute to an elevated risk.

How Do You Take the DUTCHTest®?

This cutting-edge test is done from wherever you are—whether you’re traveling or in the comfort of your home. It’s incredibly easy for patients to complete and send back.

Once you receive the test in the mail, you’ll follow the simple instructions provided. The instructions include:

  • The directions for the test

  • How to prepare for the test

  • When to start the collection process based on your menstrual cycle

The test involves collecting four or five urine samples throughout the day and night. Dried urine samples remain stable for weeks, so mailing them back is convenient and cost-friendly.

After the lab receives your samples, it will take around 5-10 days for them to analyze the samples and send them to me. Once I receive the results of your DUTCHtest®, I’ll meet with you virtually to review the findings in detail. After that, I’ll then work with you to create custom recommendations based on your unique results.

It’s often the case that there’s more to what you’re experiencing than just your hormones. As your consultant, I’ll work with you to improve your gut health, sleep, and other factors that may be impacting your lifestyle. I also have an extensive network of referrals and can provide you with personal recommendations of those I have vetted and trust.
